The Step Up Coalition

The Step Up Coalition is an alliance dedicated to harnessing the transformational power of technology and financial actors to accelerate the transition to a net-zero future by 2050. Step Up was born out of the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit and brings together an ambitious group of innovative companies looking to set a new high bar for corporate sustainability and climate action.

Science tells us that to have a 50% chance of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees celsius, we must halve global emissions by 2030 and then reach net-zero by 2050. To achieve this desired outcome will require revolutionary and rapid change on a global scale: a volume of change that technology companies and financial institutions have demonstrated they are capable of bringing about. That it is incumbent for tech and finance firms to use their platforms and influence to bring about rapid decarbonization is a central principle to Step Up.

With the short time frame we have left to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero, committing to bold action is no longer enough. Science has told us what we need to do, and Step Up is charting the path forward for companies that want to not only survive but thrive in the low carbon future economy. To Step Up in 2020 will mean collaborating and building bridges across companies, industries, customers, and suppliers to transition to a low-carbon economy.
